Plant Extracts
Highly concentrated phytonutrients
FormMed uses plant extracts in many of its products. What makes extracts special is that the active ingredients are present in higher concentrations than in plant powders.
To produce an extract, the important parts of the plant are dried, ground, and extracted. There are different methods for this. As a result, carbohydrates, cellulose, and sugars are mostly removed.
In the Phytoform® line, FormMed uses plant extracts standardized to their key ingredients or to a fixed extraction ratio. In contrast, plant powders are only dried and ground. The active ingredients are present in small amounts, which are usually not precisely known.
Phytonutrients: the plant’s natural protection
There are more than 50,000 different phytonutrients. Plants produce these substances, for example, to protect themselves from environmental influences such as sunlight. Whether all of these substances are necessary for humans is still unclear. However, they are considered highly valuable: they are an essential part of a wholesome diet and are believed to contribute to the health benefits of fruits and vegetables.
